Unwelcome Visitor

Wed Jul 16, 2008, 9:48 AM
American submarines in World War II had a nasty habit of showing up where they were least welcome. Some, such as the Albacore, Cavalla and Archer-fish (Archerfish) found their way into position to attack, and sink aircraft carriers. Others, such as the Batfish, just waited for enemy submarines to haplessly wander in front of their torpedo tubes. Most, including the Tang (24 ships sunk before her loss (just over a year from commission to loss.)), Trigger (18 ships sunk before her loss), Tirante (8 ships sunk) and Tautog (26 ships sunk throughout the war) spent time harassing convoys.

This is a series of sketches/images involving WWII era American submarines harassing or attacking a number of Japanese targets. The first series is a small (3 ship) convoy attacked by an unidentified "Tambor" class submarine.
